Jurena paid his dues and then some working out of a small trailer at various bars in the central Houston area over several years. He perfected a hot-and-fast method for cooking brisket and produces some of the best sweet-glazed-style pork ribs in the city as well as notable smoked turkey.
The partnership with a bustling sports bar has allowed Jurena to focus more on daily barbecue production and it shows – he’s making some of the best barbecue he’s ever made here at Pappa Charlies Barbeque in Cypress. He’s also expanded to smoked-meat-infused bar foods like nachos and tacos that are a big hit with the beer-drinking and live-music-listening patrons that pack the expansive outdoor patio.
