Russell & Misty Roegels literally spent years paying dues as a franchise of a small Dallas-based chain before branching out in 2014, building this cozy and comfortable west-side spot into one of the best in Houston.

Russell learned from one of the old-school greats – Roland Lindsey of Bodacious Bar-B-Q in northeast Texas – and continues inventing and improving to this day. Misty’s side dishes are legendary, from the bright and fresh Texas caviar to the boozy bourbon banana pudding. Roegels Barbecue was also one of the first joints in Houston to start making in-house pastrami.

More recently they’ve begun working with North Carolina-style whole hog barbecue, acquiring a dedicated pit to cook the hog and transform it into excellent pulled pork.

Building: Stand-alone building on a busy stretch of S. Voss with a big interior dining room; there's a smaller, enclosed outdoor patio with several picnic tables.

Parking: The main parking lot shares spaces with the business next door and can get full during peak lunch hours; there are also spaces in the alley in the back, as well as street spots on nearby Del Monte Dr.

Ordering: Standard counter-service model. Line up and place order at point-of-sale and pay there, then wait for order to be called.

Catering: Pickup, delivery always available. Full service for 100+ guests.

Pit(s): A collection of all-wood-burning AN Bewley cabinet-style pits, non-rotisserie, with custom-modified thermostat and flue system.
