Truth BBQ

Truth BBQ
The original Truth BBQ took over an old barbecue joint on the highway between Houston and Austin and quickly became a destination; the Houston location opened in 2019 and is a must-visit for classic CTX 'Q.

The original location in Brenham had been a couple of old-school joints over the years – eccentric places but forgettable barbecue. So when Leonard Botello IV took it over and hung out the Truth BBQ shingle, serving world-class CTX-style barbecue from day one, barbecue fans speeding to-and-from Houston and Austin rejoiced.

The Houston location appeared several years later (the Brenham location is still open) with a long gestation period that only ramped up the barbecue fan frenzy. The big 1000-gallon offset barrel pits were a doozy to install, but once complete, the high-traffic location and Botello’s exquisite barbecue made this one of the best and busiest barbecue joints in Houston when the doors opened.

Building: This building was a car repair shop before being transformed into Phil's BBQ and later J. Black's bar. Truth took it over in 2019 and did a complete renovation. Very welcoming and warm inside with a big dining room and attached (covered) patio.
Parking: There is a dedicated parking lot for the restaurant that can get full during busy times. Usually you can wait a few minutes and a space will open up. There is an additional small gravel lot to the south on the other side of Barnes St. Additional parking on nearby side streets.
Ordering: Counter-service - lineup and place your meat order with the cutter, then your side dish order, then dessert. It is all assembled while you are in line, then you pay at the register, take your tray, and head out to find a table.
Catering: Pickup, delivery and full-service.
Pit(s): Four 1000-gallon offset steel barrel pits.
