Houston’s Sixth Ward is something of a hidden throwback in a bustling city – historically protected homes along wide streets with the original brick paving showing through here-and-there. In that sense, Henderson & Kane (named for the intersection it is on) is a perfect fit – hyper-local specialty products combined with grocery essentials.
Then, of course, there is the Avila’s barbecue, inspired by John’s time working at his grandparent’s barbecue joint in nearby Bryan, which combines CTX-style craft barbecue with south and southeast Texas influences. The Avila’s appropriately call it “Smoked Texana” with its highly personal flair and flavoring.
